Authentic, historical, join Quintessence Ensemble as they delve into the rich musical heritage of the 1500's.
Just over 500 years ago, in a seemingly insignificant town in Germany, a monk nailed ninety-five thesis on the town church door, an action that would change the world from that moment on. "Was the church the central authority in the lives of Christians?" "What must a man do to enter heaven?" were some of the questions that rose from Martin Luther's action of determination and faith. Such a significant decision drastically changed the musical world as well, not only in the middle ages but has continued to impact sacred music composers since that time, including the most prestigious Johann Sebastian Bach. Join us, Quintessence Ensemble, with guest organist, James Vanderbrink as we unfold the great music of the time of the Reformation, bringing back the music of old to our day and age. Along the way, church historian Dr. Ian Clary will expound various important figures of the great Reformation in addition to explaining how such an event continues to affect. our day to day lives.
